ADS-B Reflections - (a confession and a suggestion)

Re: ADS-B Reflections - (a confession and a suggestion)
Thanks Jack.. Good info. Adding in a certified GPS source and certified transponder are required, but nowhere is a certified altitude encoder required. Many aircraft such as mine use the Dynon D100 EFIS which also provides altitude encoder data to the transponder. I contacted Remos to ascertain what they are suggesting/approving. Their response was "wait & see" as there are holes in the current rules as written. I have ADS-B-in already and appreciate the traffic info while in the LAX 30 mile veil. A stand-alone system which occupies minimal panel space is my best option - but I will wait and see what changes are made and what comes on the market to fill the void. Thanks.. Don

No problemo!Jack Tyler wrote: (My apologies to Eddie, who really doesn't want to be bothered with all this ADS-B mumbo-jumbo. Yet...)
TLDR, but I did spot my name!
Don't wear it out!

Yes, Eddie, it was too long, but I read it anyway, because I spotted your name.

Or just put my name in it!SportPilot wrote:That's a good point. If you want your post to be read, make it short and to the point.
I may bookmark it to read in December of 2019 though!

I recently purchased a second hand Garmin GDL39. This is my effort to get some hands on experience with this new technology. My thought is to eliminate my subscription to XM weather and benefit from free TIS. I got my first real chance to try it out on my trip back from KLRO. The weather worked as well as XM weather, the traffic was "spotty". It seems that for good traffic information you should have ADSB-out. I'll stick with the "big sky theory" for now and keep my eyes outside the cockpit.

Radar coverage around here starts at 13,000'. My PCAS does much better than that.SportPilot wrote:ADS-B traffic without ADS-B out is almost useless. With ADS-B out, you should see all mode C traffic that is high enough to be picked up by radar.

Gee, Dave, I though you already had two!deltafox wrote:I recently purchased a second hand

That would be so awesome to have ADS-B out and see all mode-C!SportPilot wrote:ADS-B traffic without ADS-B out is almost useless. With ADS-B out, you should see all mode C traffic that is high enough to be picked up by radar.
There's a goldmine out there for the first company like Stratus to introduce a $1k portable ADS-B In/Out solution. I don't care if it's WAAS or not at this point.

I think we will see that.SportPilot wrote:There's a goldmine out there for the first company like Stratus to introduce a $1k portable ADS-B In/Out solution. I don't care if it's WAAS or not at this point.
And it may not be that far out from now.

Oh yes. Everybody wants it. I can't believe it's not out now.
Put an antenna on the Stratus and ping it out!

What app are your viewing your traffic on?SportPilot wrote:I bought one for $1,400. Close enough.
