Switch S-LSA to E-LSA?

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

Im glad to hear such good things. it is not my area. im trying to learn.

So....

In considering switching to ELSA, i should look at cost.

Insurance at Falcon (EAA) goes up $300 a year.
LSRI Good enough.
Allegedly value of plane drops some

If stay as SLSA
Save on insurance but incur cost of hiring annual CI unless obtain LSRM.

I really value your input guys. after my husband passed, i find out how much my reasoning abiloty adapted in marriage to omly half what was needed.

Tks

Mine, also with Falcon, actually dropped a bit, albeit for a reduced hull value ($50k vs $70k).
LSRI Good enough.
Not sure what that means. ANYONE can work on/maintain an E-LSA.

A 16 hour LSR-I course is required to do your own annual condition inspection. NOTHING is required to work on an Experimental, other than the skill and ability to do so.

Maybe. Maybe not. Only a factor when you sell, obviously.

As an S-LSA, most maintenance must be performed by an A&P or an LSR-M. Some preventive maitenance may be performed by the owner, but only as permitted by the manufacturer.

Also, as in the "battery" thread, ZERO parts substitutions without a Letter of Authorization from the manufacturer. This can present quite an expense/headache.

Don't think of obtaining an LSRM as a burden. Spend three weeks with a dozen other airplane obsessed people learning as much as possible about the inner workings of LSA; wrenching, riveting, cutting oil filters, even sewing fabric on aircraft. I would recommend to any sport pilot.
