Aerotrek A220 and A240. What do you think?

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

Keep in mind an Aerotrek is basically an S-LSA Avid Flyer. You can spend $80k on an Aerotrek or buy an experimental Avid for about a third of that or less (my buddy got one that needed some work for $12k and has flown it for six years). No judgement on how you choose to spend your money, and some prefer a factory airplane, but those are roughly apples-to-apples airplanes.

The most likely difference between the Avid and the Aerotrek is the engine. Avids have been built with a wide variety of engines. The Aerotreks all come with a Rotax 912ULS.

That is true, though there are a lot of Avids around with 80hp and 100hp 912s.

I’m now in the market for a ‘light’ backcountry airplane, and the A220 fits the bill at a very good price. Downside - 9 month wait! The distributor only receives 2 a month.

Bushcat is another option - higher gross , cheaper ...

Ham, I have a friend and local CFI who is looking to sell his SLSA A220 (equipped with tundra tires and a DUC Swirl prop that I installed with an LoA). The aircraft is low time and well maintained (if I do say so myself!) If you're interested, email me your contact info to [email protected], and I'll pass it on to him.
