Hey y’all, Zlin Aviation announced a new LSA STOL aircraft that I think will change the game. Electric retractable slats!

The one in the video can't be an LSA due to the controllable prop.

Too bad.

The pictures Zlin posted is actually that old prototype now. They haven’t used a constant speed prop in over 6 months while testing and probably never will again as you don’t need one for this application. The 80” 4 blade E-PROPS that’s on the black Norden is fixed pitch. That prop and engine combination is yielding 771 pounds of thrust.

Trent Palmer just took his single lever MT constant speed prop off of his Kitfox and went back to his old NR 79” 3 blade fixed pitch. He lost 21 pounds off the nose and was able to remove another 12 pounds of weight he had on the tail so 33 pounds in total. He says he can really feel a difference in the airplane again and he cruises at the same speeds as before on less fuel. His setup is definitely drag limited so a constant speed prop doesn’t yield much benefit, especially since he was already nose heavy with the addition of the 915 alone.
