Nice...that is some smooth water.
If you want grass there is Deerfield Park (9GA9) just a little west of there. 2900x50 feet and a fun approach.

Had to look that one up. Have you landed there?MrMorden wrote:If you want grass there is Deerfield Park (9GA9) just a little west of there. 2900x50 feet and a fun approach.

Yup, just a couple of weeks ago, it was my first ever grass landing. There was a big lift over the trees at the approach end, and I had to slip it in:Flocker wrote:Had to look that one up. Re: KMLJ - Baldwin County Airport
Mrmorden that seemed like a really shallow approach with the trees around. It could just be the camera angle. Also, I was always taught on a soft field landing to keep that stick back to keep as much pressure off that nose wheel as possible. Not trying to slam you just sharing what I was taught. It looks like a fun place to land.
Re: KMLJ - Baldwin County Airport
I'm sure that's an artifact of the relatively wide angle lens.langj wrote:that seemed like a really shallow approach with the trees around.
Andy, I do agree with langj that holding the stick all the way back on roll-out, keeping weight off the nosewheel, might not be a bad idea. And, I notice you have a pretty heavy grip on the stick (fingers wrapped firmly around it). In my experience, it's less tiring to fly LSAs with just gently fingertip pressure on the stick (and letting trim do all the heavy lifting). Try a relaxed grip sometime, and see how that works out for you.
Thanks for sharing the video, Andy. Interesting strip, apparently well suited to LSA flying.

Yes, the wide angle on the GoPro makes the angle look shallow and the trees on the right look really close. Neither was actually the case.drseti wrote:I'm sure that's an artifact of the relatively wide angle lens.langj wrote:that seemed like a really shallow approach with the trees around.

I definitely have a lazy tendency to put the nose wheel down too soon, which I am working on correcting. As for the grip, in the CT there are centering springs that make a two finger grip like you might otherwise use less effective. My grip is not tight, but I do have more than a couple of fingers on it.

Oh, right. I forgot about those damned springs. I wonder why they do that...MrMorden wrote: in the CT there are centering springs that make a two finger grip like you might otherwise use less effective.

Re: KMLJ - Baldwin County Airport
At first I hated it and thought it made the controls feel heavy, but now it just feels normal to me. I don't think any of the control surfaces are mass balanced...maybe it's a minor anti-flutter measure?drseti wrote:Oh, right. I forgot about those damned springs.
