My friend's 1946 O-200 powered 415-D Ercoupe. He bought it to learn how to fly, I help keep the flat spots off the tires every now and then.

Nice!

I've been an Ercoupe fan for decades.

Imho Ercoupe looks better than most Cessnas ... and I suspect is a lot more fun to fly as well.

Just decades? I've been an Ercoupe fan for more than half a century!

OK, Paul, I just didn't want to give away how ancient I am.

When I got my private ticket in 1964 (fifty-six years ago) I had a chance to buy a 415-C that was for sale in Ogden, UT for $1,000. It would have been a stretch on my E-4 salary, so I abandoned the idea and a few years later when I had some money I bought a C-150. When I decided to go light sport, I sold my C-172 and again considered an Ercoupe but bought the Zodiac instead. I did get a chance to fly one without the rudder mod when I had my 150 at Gnoss Field in Novato (KDVO) and really liked it, but wanted one with rudder pedals and that's what I was looking for when I decided to go with the Zodiac.

I'm pretty pleased with the Zodiac; it's faster and wider at the shoulders (44") than the Ercoupes.

They're really nice airplanes, though.

You just did, Stan, by admitting that you made E4 while I was still in college.

In a rented new '63 172 in 1964. Was I ever that young?

What struck me about that picture is NO HEADSET. Back then, nobody had headsets; we just cranked up the volume on the radio cabin speaker so we could hear it over the engine noise. It's a wonder we aren't all deaf.
