Student Pilot License

Sport aviation is growing rapidly. But the new sport pilot / light-sport aircraft rules are still a mystery to many flight schools and instructors. To locate a flight school offering sport pilot training and/or light-sport aircraft rentals, click on the "Flight School And Rental Finder" tab above. This is a great place to share ideas on learning to fly, flight schools, costs and anything else related to training.

Student Pilot License

Post by Chuckhhill »

As a PPL student pilot you get a student pilot license when you get your medical.

As a Sport Pilot you don't need the medical, so do you need a student pilot license and if so, where do you get it?

Hi Chuck -

per EAA and FAA:

"You will need a sport pilot student certificate for your solo flying during your training. You can get a sport pilot student certificate from any FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) or any Designated Pilot Examiner."

Maybe some of the instructors here can give you further info on who they contact to get student certs for their sport pilot students.
