Did my oral exam and checkride yesterday at First Landings in Apopka, FL (X04). It's taken me 17 months, and over that time I've been through 4 CFIs, 5 aircraft, 2 hurricanes, 3 major proposals at work, and more hassle than I ever expected. I had started out trying to do it on a quicker track, planning for 4 to 6 lessons per week. Unfortunately fate got in the way, in the form of CFIs getting airline jobs, aircraft being damaged or down for maintenance, weather, family obligations, you name it.
But I made it!!!
I'm planning to arrange to get my towered airport endorsement soon, and then get a little experience on a grass field, but for now I'm just going to enjoy. I'm looking forward to taking my son up soon.

I'm convinced that learning to fly has more to do with stubborn perseverance (and a healthy bank account and a tolerant spouse) than aeronautical skill by far.

Congrats, what aircraft do you plan to fly in? Rental or do you plan to purchase?

I'll rent for now. I've been flying Tecnams, mostly the Eaglet. If I eventually buy it will probably be an older plane. I like Ercoupes but haven't flown in one yet. Luscombes also look interesting, but I don't know whether I want a tail dragger.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a tail dragger, but I would want something with an electrical system, electric starter, and radio, etc.
Retired from flying.
Re: New Sport Pilot
When you go there with many of the older aircraft they are no longer light sport.TimTaylor wrote:I wouldn't hesitate to buy a tail dragger, but I would want something with an electrical system, electric starter, and radio, etc.
