WooHoo......Solo'd today

Sport aviation is growing rapidly. But the new sport pilot / light-sport aircraft rules are still a mystery to many flight schools and instructors. To locate a flight school offering sport pilot training and/or light-sport aircraft rentals, click on the "Flight School And Rental Finder" tab above. This is a great place to share ideas on learning to fly, flight schools, costs and anything else related to training.

WooHoo......Solo'd today

Post by Fooey »

Solo went fine today. Three takeoffs and landings to full stop. Ercoupe climbs and glides a lot different without anyone in the right seat. Wild thing to do at 55 yrs old. Makes ya feel young again. hehe. A day not soon to be forgotten!!

Never too late! Heck, I'm in the latter half of my 40s and still hope to become a Sport Pilot CFI eventually.

CONGRATULATIONS Fooey, I still remember the first time I soloed a Coupe, great times. I had a 415C with NO rudder pedals and still remember my first serious X-wind landing with 18K direct crosswinds, what a HOOT!

Congratulations..... I soloed over 40 years ago... trust me you will never forget your first solo. It's like the first time you had sex.

CONGRATULATIONS, Fooey. A wonderful day and accomplishment, indeed.

I, too, was having fun in my Ercoupe yesterday evening. But no matter how great my flight was - it is pale in comparison to your first solo. WTG.

Ercoupe

I am curious about the Ercoupe as an LSA. What is empty weight?

Fuel capacity?

Cruise speed?

Fuel burn at cruise in GPH?

If memory serves me right I believe the specs for my 415C were as follows:

Empty Weight: 805 lbs

Fuel Capacity: 24 Gallons / 9 Gallon tanks in each wing w/ a 6 Gallon header tank.

Cruise speed: I had a cruise speed of about 95 - 100 mph

Fuel Burn in GPH: 5.0 GPH the majority of the time and less w/ throttle reduced for really low and slow.

I had the fabric wings w/ double fork nose gear, 1320 STC, bubble windshield and a few other mods as well. FANTASTIC aircraft that is a real pleasure to fly.

Congrats Fooey! I soloed at 57. 60 now and fly 2 to 3 times per week. Loving backcountry strips now. There is nothing quite like leaving the earth any time you decide.
