Check Ride Today
I passed my check ride today. I am an officially licensed Private Pilot!
Are you a Texas pilot?

Very good! One of my students passed his Private Pilot today as well - in a LSA.

The disadvantage of doing SP enroute to PPL is cost (you end up paying for two written exams, and two checkrides). But, IMHO, that's more than justified by the ability to carry a passenger and fly for fun, twice as soon! Good luck finishing up the SP; you'll definitely enjoy yourself more while working on the Private.NismoRR wrote:I'm a few hours away from my SP checkride, though I'm thinking about going PPL.
Oh, and congrats to our Civil Engineer! Have fun, fly safely, and just remember, a GA aircraft is not intended to be used as earth-moving equipment...

The opinions posted are those of one CFI, and do not necessarily represent the FAA or its lawyers.

The reason for possibly going PPL is a very nice, low time C-150 is available and I'm considering buying it. Looking down the road I know I'm going to want to fly more than 2-3 hours/month, which is probably what I would be able to do renting the Skycatcher @ 125/hr. I daydream about flying and owning a plane, but LSA's currently are just too expensive. I figure I can get a lot of hours on the 150 for the next 2-3 years, continue training through instrument, and then see where my interests are at that point. As I'm researching the 150, I'm surprised at the vast majority of 150 owners that love and are very passionate about the plane.drseti wrote: The disadvantage of doing SP enroute to PPL is cost (you end up paying for two written exams, and two checkrides). The funniest thing is that I took my CFI to breakfast yesterday to discuss all this. Showed him pictures, etc, and at the end, he may want to partner up on the purchase! LOL He trained in a 150 and he kept saying how he'd love to fly one for fun as he's always had a soft spot (as he pounded his chest) for the 150. We're doing a xC next week to check out the plane.
