Buying an airplane

Been out of the forum for a while, kind of fell out of my mind. Been busy with work, flying lots recently. But, the plus is, I got myself into a position where I could afford an airplane. So naturally, I did exactly that, or rather I'm in the process. I found a very nice 1940 Aeronca 65LA, Chief, that has the original Lycoming O-145 in it. I'll keep the forum updated on the progress of getting the airplane, as I'm at work for at least the next couple months before I can go get it.

The little Lycoming is not a power house, but they are really smoooth. I had one in a Taylorcraft BL-65 I restored.

Yes, good luck. A chief is a sweet little aircraft. I almost bought a nicely restored one - but ended up with my Ercoupe instead.

Just one picture of the plane. I haven't totally closed on the plane yet, but once I get vacation from the blimp job, I'll have the deal done. It will sure be fun to ferry it home from Pennsylvania to Kansas in late November/early December.

I suspected that Dan would rather sell to an insider, although he received some random bids. It's a hell of a deal. I moved ahead with getting my tailwheel endorsement after seeing Dan's Chief for sale, and received it this Sunday.

Yup, it's his plane. He's a really great guy, showed the airplane well. It's a great little airplane, especially considering my situation right now, where I won't be able to fly it too much. But, the price was right and it's something with some history.
